ASR 33 Teletype

This is Model ASR 33 teletype I have had for many years. This is an electromechanical apparatus that provides terminal facilities for exchanging information. Transmission may be half or full duplex. Current interface is standard with EIA RS-232-C.

My unit also has the paper tape reader and punch. I also have the paper holder and one roll of paper (not shown). As shown below, I have the Technical Manual and schematics for this unit.

I purchased this unit years ago for use on a computer I was going to build. I had used a teletype like this in college when I was learning the Intel 8080 microprocessor. The teletype was the interface to the Intel Intelec 8 developmental system for the 8080. I also used a teletype like this at one of my jobs to program in-circuit circuit board test equipment.

The last time I turned it on, it worked. The motor is a bit noisy, though. The paper tape reader worked and I was able to read a paper tape, with a few errors. It probably needs cleaning.

Below are specifications for the ASR 33.
