Chicago, IL

In September, 2006 I made a one-day business trip to Chicago, Illinois. I did not have a lot of time to spend there but I did get to go downtown. It was rainy and cloudy when I visited there. I took the picture above as we were traveling north on I90 on the western side of the city. Note the top of the tall buildings disappear in the clouds. Below are some other pictures I took in Chicago.

Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry is one place you should visit if you visit Chicago. It is located near the shore of Lake Michigan in the souteastern part of the city. There is lots to see there including the space section where the Apollo 8 command module is on display, therobot section where there is a replica of Robby the Robot from the movie "Forbidden Planet", the train section where they have a large miniature railroad, and many other sections. Below are a few pictures I took in the museum. I visited there on a Monday afternoon and it happened to be a free admission day!

Below is a picture of the replica of Robby the Robot from the movie "Forbidden Planet." He actually speakes.

Below is a picture of the miniature train layout. It is an HO gauge railroad that includes a scale model of the city of Chicago, rural, and mountain areas.

Below is a steam engine in the train section.

They have a section where numerous new and old cars are on display. Below is a Ford Model T that is on display.

They also have an old stagecoach on display as shown below.

One section of the museum is dedicated to display a WWII German U-505 submarine. Below is a picture of the submarine.

The submarine is very large as you can see. You can also go inside. I did not go inside because there was a long line and I arrived only 2.5 hours before closing time. They also had a periscope set up so you could look through it.
