1940's Crosley Model 66TC

This is 1940's Crosley Model 66TC. It is a two-band radio covering Standard Broadcast AM and shortwave 5.8 - 15 MHz. This radio is often referred to as the "Crosley American Overseas" as is labeled on the dial. This radio was sold in two different cases: bakelite or wood. This radio shown here is in a wood case. The radio has 4 knobs: on/off/volume, tone, tuning, and band/phono switch. (The radio has a phono input where one can play a phonograph through the radio speaker) This radio was received in very poor condition (see pictures below). The plastic dial cover was almost opaque and extremely dirty/mildewed/stained. The shellac on the wood was rough. The wood was also stained with what appeared to be water spots. In addition, the bottom was separated from rest of cabinet, the radio had a 6K6 in place of the 6V6, it had a bad 6SA7, the radio only hummed, the radio also had a shorted rubber-coated wire, and it had a shorted cap to the grid of audio output tube. The electronics was repaired and aligned. The bottom was reglued to the case and the wood stripped of its varnish and treated with tung oil. The dial cover was cleaned using fine steel wool. The radio displays reasonably well now and it also works well.
